We are pleased to announce a new publication from the Children’s Policy Centre: Taking Action to Reduce Child Poverty: Patching, Reforming or Transforming? by Sharon Bessell in the most recent issue of Social Alternatives.
The article examines the recommendations of the Senate Community Affairs References Committee Inquiry into the Nature and Extent of Poverty in Australia. Chapter 4 of the Inquiry’s report focuses on child poverty. It is structured around the MOR Framework, developed through research with children by the Children’s Policy Centre.
This article discusses approaches to redressing child poverty that range from applying policy patches to existing systems, to policy and systems reform and transformative shifts. It argues that while patching and reforming may improve children’s lives in the short-term, transformation of systems is needed to end child poverty and ensure all children can thrive.
